About twenty of us meet in the Centenary Rooms next to the Church on a Monday night at 7.30pm to get into God's Word. We spent the Autumn and early part of this year going through the Book of Revelation. It is a book which many fight shy of, but we have found it to be exhilarating, challenging and, as it was meant to be, encouraging. Many of the images were strange and exotic to us at first, until we delved into the Old Testament. So we not only learnt a lot about Revelation, but we also realised how much we didn't know about the Old Testament. We all found it amazing to discover how scripture all ties up with itself to make the great announcement that, despite the seeming chaos of this world, our God reigns. Christ whom the world rejected and crucified is on the throne, and he shall reign for ever and ever.
It seemed natural to go on to the Gospel of John. Having looked at the first of the seven 'signs', we have just come to the end of chapter 4. If Revelation is about 'sovereignty', or 'who is in control of this world?', John is about 'life'. The connecting thread is, of course, Jesus, because he is the One in control and 'in him was life'.
