After the summer break our Bible Study group continues to explore Bible Basics. We are trying to see how the Bible as a whole fits together. Is it just 66 separate books or is there a basic idea being worked out through those 66 books?
So far we have seen how the Old Testament is the story of the promise God gave to Abraham in Genesis 12.2-3 after Adam and Eve decided human beings could live without God. The story of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the working out of that promise by God that all peoples on earth will be blessed through Abraham. All the peoples on earth will be blessed when we are restored to the bliss of Eden on which human beings have turned their backs. Revelation 21 gives us a glimpse of that restored Eden, the new heaven and the new earth.
This autumn we have moved into the New Testament to see how God's promise to Abraham is being worked out. We are looking at the four Gospels at the moment, and in particular we are reading Mark's Gospel to see who, according to Mark, is Jesus and why, according to Mark, did Jesus come.
This autumn we meet on Mondays at 7.30pm in the Centenary Rooms which are located to the right of the front entrance of the Church.
All are welcome.
