The music composed for the different seasons of the Church’s year is always special but the music associated with Advent and Christmas always seems the most memorable and particularly evocative. We sing of angels, shepherds, Mary, Joseph and of course, the Christ Child, born into our lives each year.
Part of many people’s celebrations will be watching the service of Nine Lessons and Carols from King’s College, Cambridge; the carols and reading sung and spoken to perfection within that glorious College Chapel. The rather more humble musical preparations in our churches and in our lives similarly reflect the majesty and glory of this season. We sing of the brooding darkness and expectation of Advent bursting into glorious light and the celebration of Christmas itself. The sheer joy of singing carols and Christmas songs once again is wonderful and there is no other music quite like it.
The Choir is working very hard as always, to bring you the very best of music for this great season. In thanking them for all their hard work during the course of the year, may I also join with them in wishing you a Joyous Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
