Guides meet every Thursday from 7.30pm, usually in the Church Hall (unless we’re off ice skating, swimming, having campfires or wide games etc). Girls aged 10 to 14 years are welcome to join.
We have a programme led by the girls themselves (anything from cooking and eating to drama, parties, art and crafts, dance and keep fit), but supported by qualified adult leaders. There are extra weekend activities available through Girlguiding, plus international trips and our annual camp. Team building and leadership skills are also encouraged.
Bring and Buy stall at Church Parade
The stall which everyone supported so generously raised £320 for the Nepal Leprosy Trust.
The money will be used to help rebuild the village near Lalgadh hospital which was previously made of mud huts. The houses were all either totally destroyed or severely damaged by a severe storm leaving the families living there in destitute circumstances.
It costs about £200 to build a new house using substantial materials that will stand up to the storms. The sum you raised will therefore pay for one and a half houses.
Between now and Christmas the Guides will have a stall in the Church Hall vestibule on Thursday evenings from 7.00 till 7.30pm and again from 8.45 to 9.00pm to try and raise the additional money to fund a second house to be built.
Thanks to everyone for your tremendous effort in supporting this project. We had hoped one house might be fundable, but to be able to help two whole families would be amazing.
